Behind a composed effort on both ends of the floor, Goldsboro defeated East Surry 54–46 to capture the NCHSAA 3A girls basketball state championship, securing the program’s first state title since 1982 and capping a remarkable 28–2 season.

Goldsboro advanced to the NCHSAA 3A State Championship with a 54–44 win over Northwood, fueled by 20 points from Aziyah Boyer and a pivotal third-quarter stretch where freshman Kennedy Barbour scored 10 straight points to break the game open.

Southern Wayne jumped out to an early lead but couldn’t recover from a nine-run third inning in a 12-2 season-opening loss at North Lenoir and will travel to Beddingfield on March 3 for its next game.

Charles B. Aycock opened the playoffs in dominant fashion, defeating Richlands 61-19 behind 14 points from junior Alonna Frederick and a balanced scoring effort that saw nine Lady Falcons reach the scoring column. CBA now advances to face South Brunswick in Round 2.

Eastern Wayne erased a late seven-point deficit behind clutch defense and execution to defeat rival Goldsboro 57–54 in front of a packed house, securing its third straight win and a statement victory in the conference race.
