Goldsboro outlasts South Lenoir despite shot disparity

GOLDSBORO — In a matchup between soccer teams that had split their previous two recorded meetings, Goldsboro made its chances count Tuesday, beating South Lenoir 5-4 to improve to 3-3.

The Cougars and Blue Devils were tied 3-3 at halftime before Goldsboro edged South Lenoir 2-1 in the second half. The win came despite South Lenoir holding a 43-23 advantage in shots.

Aiden Ramirez-Cruz led Goldsboro with two goals and two assists, raising his season total to 10 goals. Trent Sheppard added two goals and an assist, Josias Soto scored once, and Jonathan Ortiz had two assists.

Bryson Sternbach finished with nine saves for the Cougars.

South Lenoir, which fell to 1-2-1, was led by Arael Resendiz with three goals. Yeshua Perez-Gonzalez added one goal and one assist.

Goldsboro was scheduled to travel to Beddingfield on Sept. 3, while South Lenoir was scheduled to visit Spring Creek on Sept. 3.
