Goldsboro serves up sweep as 28 aces overwhelm Saints

Goldsboro’s serving controlled the match, as the Cougars recorded 28 aces in a 25-16, 25-9, 25-13 volleyball sweep of the Saints.

The victory improved Goldsboro to 3-1 after the Cougars entered the week at 2-1. The Saints fell to 0-4 after starting the week 0-3.

The Saints had trouble returning serve throughout the match, and Goldsboro took advantage to build control early. After winning the opening set 25-16, the Cougars pulled away in the second set for a 25-9 win before closing the match with a 25-13 third-set victory.

Goldsboro finished with 28 aces and 21 kills. Taylor Howell led the serving effort with nine aces, while Addison West added seven aces. Madelyn Hales had seven kills for the Cougars.

Goldsboro has won seven of the last 10 meetings in the matchup. Lee Avery is in his first season at Goldsboro.

Goldsboro plays at Aycock on Aug. 20. SW hosts Wayne Country Day on Aug. 21.
