Eastern Wayne dominates 4A East Regional while North Lenoir’s Cassidee Fraser shines

Eastern Wayne put together one of the most impressive performances of the NCHSAA 4A East Regional at Wilson Preparatory Academy, sweeping both the boys and girls team championships in dominant fashion.

The Warriors’ girls squad totaled 123.5 points to claim the regional title over First Flight (99), while the Eastern Wayne boys rolled to 216.5 points, nearly doubling second-place Cummings (112).

For North Lenoir, sophomore sprinter Cassidee Fraser delivered a breakout regional performance, winning two individual regional championships and helping the Hawks finish eighth overall in the girls standings with 25 points.

Fraser captures regional titles

Fraser continued her rise as one of the area’s top underclassmen by sweeping the girls sprint events.

The sophomore won the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds after posting the top prelim time at 11.87. She later returned to dominate the 200-meter dash in 24.62.

North Lenoir also earned points in the girls 4x100 relay, placing fourth in 50.74 seconds.

On the boys side, Anton Black scored with a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (53.15), while Tyler Egleton added points in the 200 meters with a seventh-place finish in 23.52.

Eastern Wayne overwhelms field

Eastern Wayne’s depth proved too much for the competition as the Warriors piled up event victories across sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps and throws.

Jeremiah Faison led the boys effort with regional titles in both hurdle events, winning the 110 hurdles in 13.45 and the 300 hurdles in 39.12. Teammate Ja’Mir Fowler finished runner-up in the 110 hurdles to give Eastern Wayne a massive points haul.

Gavin Britcher added sprint championships in the 100 meters (10.80) and 200 meters (22.22), while the Warriors also won the boys 4x100 relay in 42.69.

Eastern Wayne’s girls team was equally dominant in relays, winning both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Avariah Bryant claimed the girls 400-meter title in 58.51 and added points in both the 200 and long jump.

In the field events, Korieonta Williams delivered one of the top performances of the meet by winning the discus with a throw of 170-2 and finishing third in the shot put.
