Croatan sweeps 5A East Regional team titles; C.B. Aycock, Southern Wayne produce individual champions

Croatan dominated the 5A East Regional, winning both team championships. The Cougar girls finished first with 129.5 points, ahead of Durham School of the Arts and Rocky Mount, while the Croatan boys edged Rocky Mount with 80 points.

C.B. Aycock had a strong regional showing, led by a pair of throwing champions. William “Seth” Cowan won both the boys shot put at 53-1 and discus at 145-7. Alonna Frederick captured the girls shot put title at 37-10 and added a third-place finish in discus at 115-5.

Dennis Graham also brought home a regional title for C.B. Aycock, winning the boys 800 meters in 1:57.30.

Southern Wayne’s Skervenson Aphael won the boys 300-meter hurdles in 40.12, while Ivory Moore added a runner-up finish in the boys long jump at 21-1.50.

C.B. Aycock finished 13th in the girls standings with 22 points and tied for seventh in the boys standings with 46 points. Southern Wayne placed 17th on the girls side with three points and 13th on the boys side with 20.5 points.
